Rediscover Brunei Darussalam through the eyes of the People

Thursday, 16 September 2010 11:35

Hey Readers! Lots of questions coming back about the mini-projek I tweeted about this morning. The idea is that I will be putting together a special article called "A Day in the Life of a Bruneian" to showcase the best of Bruneian life and living. And as usual, this projek involves YOU! How? Tweet back photopgrahs throughout your day of where you are, things that you see, what you are eating, etc to @BruneITweet.

Here are the instructions and answers to some frequently asked questions so far:

  • if possible, preferably pictures from today - Thursday, 16th September 2010.
  • This involves YOU too Bruneian tweeps outside of Brunei, i.e. in Australia, the UK, etc etc.
  • It does not matter which twitter picture client you use - can be twitpic, yfrog, owly, plixi, etc.
  • IMPORTANT: Submissions close by 8.00 p.m. Bruneian local time.
  • You DO have time, so DON'T RUSH your shots! Try plan your shoots to showcase the best of Bruneian life and living.
  • NOTE: I will be crediting YOU in all the pictures so don't worry - I will not be taking credit for your hard work! In other words, by tweeting back pictures and participating in this projek, you have agreed to let me use your pictures for this special article.
  • Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

May this Hari Raya mark the start of new beginnings for you.

The best is yet to come!

Big Love & Blessings,

Hey Readers! I have been listening to 'Heroes' over the last few days. This song was written by David Bowie and Brian Eno back in 1977. It is arguably one of Bowie's most covered songs. It made me think. If we could be Heroes...just for one day, what would we do, and who would be want to be. So, this morning I tweeted:

BruneiTweetPeeps, if you could be a superhero, WHO would you be and WHY. #Brunei #funfriday 8)

One of the great things about Twitter, especially when there is a huge event, is that people often tweet through updates and pictures from the event in real time. Just over two weeks ago, Standard Chartered Bank hosted the Charity Run 2010 in support of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam, Persatuan Kanak-Kanak Cacat (KACA) and their Seeing Is Believing Programme. You may recall that I put forth a little challenge for people to score themselves one of the limited edition @BruneiTweet t-shirts. All you had to do was to take a picture with any of the three runners wearing the 'I am @BruneiTweet' t-shirt. (p.s. If you also took pictures with any of the runners wearing the limited edition tee, send it through! Big Love!)

Meet the winner - Angel Choo, a.k.a. @angelshameless!

A big shout out as well to Nani Azlan, a.k.a. @naninazria for tweeting through this picture:

(And of course, one of the runners wearing the @BruneiTweet t-shirt could not resist but to snap a picture with the Trooper himself!)

About the Editor

new about me profI am a born and bred Bruneian who lived and worked in Australia for over 10 years. I am now based in Brunei. Having spent time away from Brunei, I have learnt that, to know a country is to know the people. To truly appreciate a new place is to see it through their eyes, to listen to their stories, to taste, smell, do and feel as they do.

Everyone has a Story, and this blog - Projek Brunei, features the stories, music, photography and art of locals and of people who have lived or worked in Brunei before. Join me on this project, a project to discover and rediscover this country they call the Abode of Peace, the Heart of Borneo, this place they call the Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures...through the stories of the People.

You may know me by my online moniker, @BruneiTweet. I created BruneiTweet in 2009, and currently (October 2016), I have over 30,000 followers. I am passionate about community, and use social media to connect with people - both on and offline.

I have an MBA, a keen interest in business-development and marketing, and I am a three-time TEDx speaker. I believe in the power of social media and collaboration. I have worked alongside corporate organisations on various community projects. Some highlights from my journey to date: In 2011, I co-organised Twestival Brunei to raise awareness and funds for Brunei’s Child Development Centre. That year I also organised Convergence, Brunei’s first youth led leadership forum. In 2012, I co-organised Movember to raise awareness on men's health issues. In 2013, I participated at various forums including Brunei's National Environment Conference and the ASEAN Social Media Exchange in Thailand. In 2014, I was selected to represent Brunei at the Australia-ASEAN Emerging Leaders Programme. In 2015, I was involved as a panel moderator in an International Women's Day event, and was invited to speak at the Green Leaders Eco-Camp in Brunei about using social media with purpose.
But enough about me.
