Rediscover Brunei Darussalam through the eyes of the People

Wednesday, 03 November 2010 11:05

Greetings Readers! The last two weeks have been amazing! First there was the 3D event at The Mall, then there was the Borneo Colours weekend, and then there was the Boustead Family Day event, and well, the list goes on and on. I have much to share and detail about why I decided it was time to reveal myself, but for now, I want to bring you on a walk down memory lane. Everyone has a Story, myself included...and these are the different profile pictures I have used to date.

Youz Chooz!

Hello again Readers! It is time for the next limited edition @BruneiTweet t-shirt contest!

I am coining it the "Youz Chooz" contest, and here's why. I have pulled out my drawing board, and as with the previous two, I am keeping it minimalistic in design...but this time, you get to vote on the colour scheme - i.e. "Youz Chooz" the colours!

You have a choice of three colour schemes and to keep voting as simple as possible, I have organised a set of questions through SurveyMonkey.com (see below), which also includes a few other questions which helps me know a little more about you. So, here are the t-shirts...

Hey Readers! Here are the results from the Shopping vs E-Shopping poll...

*Disclaimer: These results are based on a small sample size, so these findings are generalisations at best...still interesting to note though!

90% of you have shopped online

5% of you would not try online shopping

For every one person that shops online, there are two others who would rather head out to the mall

Stay tuned for the next fun poll!

In the mean time, be inspired by Trend Hunter TV's YouTube on Retail Innovation...yup, the same Trend Hunter that Wirdy was featured on!

Hey Readers! It is nearly time for the next limited edition @BruneiTweet t-shirt contest! There have been two contests so far. The first one was a Twitter question back in March 2010 where I asked the question "What do you hope to achieve in three years' time?", and the second was the Your Brunei photograph contest in May 2010, where I engaged four guest judges to assist in selecting the winning photographs. These are some pictures of the t-shirts won to date:

Hello again Readers! I started @BruneiTweet about 10 months ago, and it has been an incredible journey. There has not been a single day since 22nd December 2009 that I have not tweeted, and I am always looking for ways to improve the way I tweet and what I tweet about. I often look out for retweeted tweets to make a mental note about 'what works', and very often, they are the 'funny' ones - usually by, @kurapak. 8)

One of the great things about the Bruneian twitterverse is that we are a very interactive bunch, and I wanted to get an idea of what made people laugh out loud...so, I sent out this tweet (*there were plenty more, but from protected accounts):

BruneiTweetWhat make you LOL? Will be putting up selected tweets on d webbie... #Brunei

These were some of the responses...

About the Editor

new about me profI am a born and bred Bruneian who lived and worked in Australia for over 10 years. I am now based in Brunei. Having spent time away from Brunei, I have learnt that, to know a country is to know the people. To truly appreciate a new place is to see it through their eyes, to listen to their stories, to taste, smell, do and feel as they do.

Everyone has a Story, and this blog - Projek Brunei, features the stories, music, photography and art of locals and of people who have lived or worked in Brunei before. Join me on this project, a project to discover and rediscover this country they call the Abode of Peace, the Heart of Borneo, this place they call the Kingdom of Unexpected Treasures...through the stories of the People.

You may know me by my online moniker, @BruneiTweet. I created BruneiTweet in 2009, and currently (October 2016), I have over 30,000 followers. I am passionate about community, and use social media to connect with people - both on and offline.

I have an MBA, a keen interest in business-development and marketing, and I am a three-time TEDx speaker. I believe in the power of social media and collaboration. I have worked alongside corporate organisations on various community projects. Some highlights from my journey to date: In 2011, I co-organised Twestival Brunei to raise awareness and funds for Brunei’s Child Development Centre. That year I also organised Convergence, Brunei’s first youth led leadership forum. In 2012, I co-organised Movember to raise awareness on men's health issues. In 2013, I participated at various forums including Brunei's National Environment Conference and the ASEAN Social Media Exchange in Thailand. In 2014, I was selected to represent Brunei at the Australia-ASEAN Emerging Leaders Programme. In 2015, I was involved as a panel moderator in an International Women's Day event, and was invited to speak at the Green Leaders Eco-Camp in Brunei about using social media with purpose.

But enough about me.
