Meet Fae - Bruneian scholar in Birmingham.

What do you do?

For the fourth year running, I’ve been living in the United Kingdom as an overseas scholar, doing my Masters in Diplomacy in Birmingham by day, and fighting crime by night.

Masters in Diplomacy by day and a crime-fighter by night. Interesting. So do you have a special crime-fighting ability?

Haha, other than the power to lull people to sleep with my incessant chatter, not much too brag about.

Describe yourself in three words.

(I actually asked my best friend to answer this for me) Random, charming, a sponge.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in K.B, spent my childhood in Kiarong, and am now a Jerudong-represent!

What do you miss most about Brunei?

THE SUN! I was never one to complain about the heat! And the pasar malam; you can have a feast with just BND$5.00 in your pocket! I always end up with air kelapa, roti john, and tongkeng ayam. Life doesn't get any better than that!

You go by the Twitter name @pumpkinfae. What do you tweet about mostly?

You know in the Harry Potter series where Prof. Dumbledore siphons his excess thoughts into the bowl because he feels his mind gets too cluttered? Twitter is that way for me because I have a tendency to think random thoughts and I need to voice them out. PLUS really bizarre things happen to me on a near-daily basis, so I tweet about them too! And Itravel quite a bit - just recently I tweeted through a road-trip to Scotland with my best friends. 40% of my tweets are for humorous purposes though - try not to take them too seriously! I got in trouble for joking about wanting to sell my blood once!

Recommend two blogs for us to read.

"", the girl behind SasBrownies fame! She has an AMAZING sense of humour, really down to earth, and makes my tummy hurt from laughing all the time!

"", a Bruneian boy who is an absolute genius with words. Really abstract thoughts; when I'm rich and famous, first thing I'm going to do is make sure he gets published!

Name your favourite restaurant, andwhich dish do you recommend?

There's an Italian restaurant in Castle Arcade, Cardiff called "Cafe Minuet" which serves the best Italian food. Its dishes are named after famous composers, and I recommend the Don Giovanni! In Brunei, my best friend got me addicted to Ultimate Chocolate in Cheezbox!

Name a 'must-visit' place in Brunei, and why.

The mosques (especially Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque) because of the intricate interior design! I went to the Blue Mosque in Turkey, and I couldn't help but think that Bruneian mosques were more beautiful!

What do you hope to achieve in three years?

WORLD DOMINATION! But seriously though, I don't really think about the future more than a year forward, as I believe in the joke "Want to make God laugh? Show him your plans." You can plan and plan all you want, but the journey will be full of improvisation, and having fun rolling with the punches!

Editor's Note: On July 4, 2010, Fae Mohamad Aus will be participating in a charity event called Race for Life. Events like Race for Life are held regularly in the UK, and are a vital part in funding Cancer Research UK's life-saving work into preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. Fae will be running the race withher other Bruneian friend Fayezuana Ali who goes to the University of Warwick. Fae and Faye set out to raise £200.00 on behalf of the cause. To date, they have raised £222.00…and there is still just over a week left before the big race! If you are interested in contributing, check out their fund-raising page and pledge online. You go girls!!! Brunei represent!
